Profile
David Campbell is CEO of Luminant, a competitive power generation subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings Corp. (EFH). Luminant’s activities include plant and mine operations, wholesale marketing and trading, and construction and development of new power plants.
Campbell and his team ensure the safe operations of over 17,500 megawatts of generation in Texas, including 2,300 MW of nuclear-powered and 7,200 MW of coal-fueled generation capacity. Luminant is completing the final 800 MW of a new 2,200-MW, $3.25 billion construction program of new baseload generation, helping to meet Texas’ growing power needs. As the leading wind purchaser, Luminant is a strong supporter of renewable resources, building on the company’s legacy of environmental stewardship. Luminant also participates in research and development efforts in new environmentally sound, next-generation energy technologies.
Previously, Campbell served as EFH’s chief financial officer. In that role, he and his team were responsible for the company’s overall financial strategy, corporate planning, enterprise risk management, treasury, tax, accounting and investor relations. His tenure as CFO included the negotiation and closing of TXU Corp.’s sale to a group of private buyers led by Goldman Sachs, KKR and TPG. This $45 billion transaction closed in October 2007. Campbell joined the company in 2004 as executive vice president of corporate planning, strategy and risk.
Before joining EFH, Campbell was a principal in the Dallas office of McKinsey & Company, Inc., where he led the Texas and Southern Region hubs of McKinsey’s corporate finance and strategy practice. He served clients in several industries, including energy, food products and industrial services.
Civic Involvement
Campbell is a member of the board of trustees for the Dallas Theater Center, the Lamplighter School, and the St. Mark’s Alumni Association and has served on the Rhodes Scholarship Committee of Selection. He is also a member of the Dallas Assembly.
Education
Campbell graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review. He also holds a master’s degree from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
Family
Campbell and his wife have three children and live in Dallas.
