Energy Future Holdings Corp. Honored with Mayor's Environmental Excellence AwardDALLAS - Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert honored Energy Future Holdings Corp.'s (EFH) commitment to the environment last week when he presented the company with the Mayor's Environmental Excellence Award (MEEA) during Earth Day festivities in downtown Dallas.
The award recognizes the groups, individuals and entities who set a strong example of environmental stewardship in Dallas, and are working to create a sustainable legacy for future generations. EFH received the award for demonstrating a high level of environmental awareness and energy efficiency at Energy Plaza, the company's downtown Dallas workspace managed by Transwestern's Dallas office.
“We are proud and honored to be a 2010 recipient of the Mayor's Environmental Excellence Award,” said Bob Keith, EFH's Director of Facility and Building Services. “It is our goal to be a leader in the Dallas green movement and maintain our property so that our tenants can be proud of where they work. This recognition moves us one step closer to that goal.”
EFH is committed to being a leader in environmental stewardship as it continually seeks to achieve improvements that lead to cleaner air, land and water, and this commitment extends to the facilities occupied by the company. To reduce energy consumption, Energy Plaza has been equipped with automated light sensors and air conditioning. Green cleaning and landscaping standards are also in place, ensuring that environmentally-friendly products are used when caring for the building and grounds. Both EFH and other Energy Plaza tenants are committed to purchasing sustainable office products to reduce the building's impact on local landfills, and the building has also implemented a robust recycling program for paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and aluminum.
EFH's corporate offices at Energy Plaza have also been recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council, with the workspace receiving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the gold level in February 2010. In addition, Energy Plaza has received Energy Star ratings in both 2008 and 2009, and expects to maintain that rating in 2010.
“We are committed to utilizing a variety of green and sustainable operating procedures to reduce the impact that our building has on the environment,” David Bryant, Property Manager for Transwestern's Dallas office. “Each small step that we take as a team will collectively make our Earth a cleaner and healthier place for future generations.”
