Gold Star Awards Honor Supplier Diversity Success

The stars shined brightly on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 16, as EFH toasted another year of supplier diversity success. With company leadership in full force, a number of EFH employees and business partners were honored at the 21st annual Gold Star Supplier Diversity Award Reception.

"Supplier diversity helps us win on two tracks: economic development of the communities where we work and live, and enhancing our competitive advantage," said Cheryl Stevens, EFH vice president of supplier diversity. "Our annual Gold Star event is the perfect occasion to toast our stars, celebrate our progress, and renew our individual and collective commitment to supplier diversity."

In 2011, EFH companies' expenditures with companies owned by certified minorities and women totaled $3.32 million, bringing the total amount spent with minority and women-owned businesses to $4.3 billion since 1990.

Held at the Belo Mansion in Dallas, Texas, the event was attended by more than 200 employees and suppliers, and featured remarks by EFH CEOJohn Young and EFH CFO Paul Keglevic. Awards were then presented to the following individuals and groups:

  • EFH's Bob Keith and Marisa Trevino, and TXU Energy's Michael Grasso, were honored with individual awards for their significant contributions to the development and utilization of certified minority and women-owned companies.
  • Luminant's plant demolition and asset recovery team received a group award for structuring an innovative deal with PRC Environmental. Luminant team members: Terry Bagley, Scott Diermann, Christy Farabee, Dave Friedman, Karla Henson, Pat Holder, Jeff Jones, Bill Lamb, David Lamb, Roger Pruett, Phil Seidler, Gary Spicer and Mark Spiegel.
  • Three minority and women "Gold Star" suppliers were recognized for outstanding service to EFH companies, their commitment to community and economic development, and their utilization of a diverse workforce: Beckville, Texas-based Pierce Construction, Inc., a Luminant partner that assists in dirt work and road construction; PRC Environmental, Inc., a Luminant supplier that provides plant abatement and demolition, and scrap and asset sale and recovery services; McConnell & Jones, LLP, a public accounting firm based in Houston, which supports EFH with benefits auditing.
  • Wirerope Works also received the EFH Partnership Award for their significant actions to offer products and services through diverse suppliers to EFH in 2011.

Since 1990, EFH has presented over 4,000 Gold Star awards.
