$2 Million Raised for United Way/TXU Energy AidSM

ThePowerOfGivingActions always speak louder than words, and thanks to another record-setting United Way and TXU Energy AidSM campaign, Energy Future Holdings’ (EFH) actions say we care about the communities where we live and work.

“I am thrilled to announce that we have exceeded our 2011 United Way/TXU Energy AidSM campaign goal,” said EFH President and Chief Executive Officer John Young in a recent letter to employees. “Our employees’ generosity, even in the face of these sometimes uncertain economic times, is overwhelming. I continue to be amazed and humbled by the caring spirit and commitment of our employees to help raise funds for those in need.”

This year, EFH exceeded a fundraising goal of $1.9 million, and raised more $2 million from employees for United Way and TXU Energy AidSM service providers.

“This is a really big deal! Hitting the $2 million mark is a new milestone for the company and we should be very proud of this accomplishment,” said Michael Fischer, EFH United Way campaign chair and vice president for Organization Development and Talent Management. “And we did it in a way that really shows who we are. It was a fun and creative campaign, we worked hard, we told stories and showed people the impact our contributions have, and we asked employees to help. And EFH employees delivered in a big way!”

The theme of this year’s campaign was The Power of Giving: Powering our Communities, Caring for our Neighbors, and it provided employees with a number of innovative ways to donate throughout the three-week campaign. Bake sales, fund-raising breakfasts, and block-party themed events kept the campaign energy up, and daily videos highlighting employee contributors and why they give inspired others. Employees also spent time volunteering at local United Way-sponsored agencies during “Day of Caring” events.

“The theme and campaign activities supported who we are as a company,” said Fischer. “It was really about how we power Texas and how we take care of our customers. We are a company that cares about the community. We’ve been leaders in the community, and this year’s campaign supported that.”

EFH has a legacy of giving generously to the communities we serve. Since 2000, EFH and its predecessor company have raised more than $21 million for United Way through employee and corporate gifts. The 2010 Energy Future Holdings United Way campaign, “The Greatest Generation of Giving,” was honored as one of the top five campaigns in the metroplex for its contribution of $1.9 million, and the company was a recipient of the Pacesetter Best Practices Award in both 2010 and 2009.

In addition, since 1983 employees and customers have given $66 million to help more than 390,000 customers across Texas in need of bill payment assistance through the TXU Energy AidSM program.

The United Way works with its partners to deliver hundreds of programs and services that target community needs, specifically those supporting the building blocks for a good life: quality education, financial stability, and sound mental and physical health.

Similarly, for more than 27 consecutive years Energy Aid has served as a community partner, helping organizations provide financial assistance for customers who are unable to pay their electric bills.
