As the nationally recognized TXU Energy AidSM program turns 30, the company has invested another $5 million to maintain its commitment to helping customers who are in need.
“This $5 million from TXU Energy allows us to match $5 for every $1 that employees and customers donate and put 100 percent of those donations directly back into the communities that they come from,” said TXU Energy Chairman and CEO Jim Burke. “We know that making ends meet continues to be a struggle for many Texans. We’re committed to our tradition of helping customers who are in need, and we’re proud of the help that donations from our employees and our customers have allowedTXU Energyto deliver.”
Since 1983, TXU Energy Aid has provided more than $78 million in bill-payment assistance to qualified low-income customers, helping more than 435,000 Texas families. It is the largest bill-payment assistance program among electricity providers in the United States – including regulated utilities and competitive retailers in Texas.
“The level of direct assistance that TXU Energy has delivered for three decades is a shining example of how Texas-based companies are helping fellow Texans who are in need,” said state Sen. John Carona, R-Dallas and chairman of the Senate Business and Commerce Committee. “When you consider that TXU Energy is competing with several dozen companies in the state’s retail electricity market – and that it is a vocal leader in efforts to secure federal energy assistance dollars for Texans – the company’s contributions are extraordinary. I applaud TXU Energy for its efforts to help all Texans, particularly those who are in financial need.”
TXU Energy advocates for as many federal dollars as possible for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program in Texas. The company also is a founding sponsor and active participant in the Coalition for Affordable Energy for All, which pushes for federal energy assistance for low-income Americans.
In 2012, the National Fuel Funds Network, an organization of utility and social service executives, recognized TXU Energy for outstanding achievement on behalf of low-income customers.

Customers can contribute to the program through a check box on their monthly invoice, employees can contribute via the company’s annual campaign and others can contribute by email@example.com.
