Thanks to the efforts of more than 80 EFH volunteers, nearly 1,000 Julian T. Saldivar Elementary School students are kicking off the school year right with a new soccer field.
“Yesterday’s event showcased our employees’ volunteer spirit and the importance of providing a recreational space that the students and their families can enjoy,” said Claudia Morrow, VP of Commercial Pricing and 2012 United Way campaign chair. “It’s critical that all kids have the opportunity to get outside and play and it’s exciting to know that our soccer field will serve as a long-term resource for the entire community.”
Volunteers spent Wednesday building equipment and chalking lines for the soccer field and leading field-day activities for students – including dribbling, hula hoop and jump-rope competitions. The new Energy in Action Field features goals, bleachers, a portable scoreboard and an irrigation system, all funded by EFH.
Following the day’s activities, the event concluded with a special dedication ceremony featuring Roger Staubach, Hall of Fame former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, David Campbell, Luminant CEO, and Jennifer Sampson, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas CEO.
