Gobbling for the TXU Energy Turkey Trot

TXU Energy and Sheltering Arms Senior Services held their annual Turkey Calling Contest on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Houston Zoo to help promote the TXU Energy Turkey Trot. Participants young to old gave their best gobble to help raise awareness for the Thanksgiving Day race.

One by one, more than 40 kids and adults gobbled their way to greatness, but only three from each category came out victorious.

According to judge Aisha Delandes, Ms. Black Texas 2010, the winners needed something more than just a voice. “What makes a good turkey call is all about the movement,” she said.

The Turkey Calling Contest is just one of the many events helping to promote the TXU Energy Turkey Trot, which is expecting a record 13,000 participants this year. The race benefits Sheltering Arms Senior Services, a nonprofit organization committed to the health and well-being of older adults and their family caregivers.

There are just a few more days to sign up for the 19th annual TXU Energy Turkey Trot. Online registration ends at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 20.
