Last summer’s extreme wildfires around Bastrop, Texas, have long left the headlines, but the work continues for volunteer fire departments in the area. To aid the efforts of these hometown heroes, Luminant employees at Sandow Power Plant and Three Oaks Mine recently donated $8,000 to 12 area volunteer fire departments and the Bastrop Ministerial Alliance organization.

“We decided to use the funds from our site picnic to help support our area fire departments,” shared Davey Meschwitz, Three Oaks Mine specialist and diversity council chairperson. “Several of our employees lost their homes and were displaced during the event, and we’re thankful for all of the firefighters who helped our co-workers and neighbors in need.”

Sandow/Three Oaks Mine Diversity Council members presented donations to all 12 fire departments and a contribution to the Bastrop Ministerial Alliance, an organization dedicated to continued fire relief efforts.

“We have about 20 employees who are also members of these volunteer fire departments,” added Katharine Ladd, engineer and council member. “Thank you to all of our employees for their commitment to support our communities when we needed it the most.”

Luminant is proud to be an integral part of the communities where our employees live, work and serve. In times of need, Luminant’s neighbors know our employees will be there. Each year Luminant employees volunteer thousands of hours and generously donate to a myriad of civic and social organizations across Texas.
