EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy sign Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve
Once a month, Chad Adamson trades in his hard hat and an East Texas coal mine for his camouflage uniform and a combat training field. A National Guardsman, Adamson is ready and willing to be called up to active duty at a moment’s notice. In the meantime, the people of Luminant’s Monticello Mine rely on the leadership and unwavering focus on safety and teamwork Adamson demonstrates as mine supervisor.
“Coming to work at Luminant has been great for me,” Adamson says. “The company is truly supportive of my service in the Guard, not to mention that you won’t find better people to work with than you will here at Luminant.”
Adamson is one of the guardsmen, reservists and veterans who make up nearly 15 percent of the current employee base at EFH, Luminant and TXU Energy. We’re proud of our employees who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces and recognized that the skills and experience individuals develop in the military or on active reserve translate into valuable assets: leadership proficiency, maturity, excellence, respect for others, quick decision making and integrity. These are the attributes we rely on to carry out our mission of safely powering Texas and caring for our customers every day.
On Monday, we formally reaffirmed our advocacy of employee active participation in the military by signing the Employer Support of the Guard Reserve’s Statement of Support. ESGR is a Department of Defense agency focused on ensuring employers value and support their employees who are currently serving in some capacity in the Armed Forces.
EFH CEO John Young, Luminant CEO Mac McFarland and TXU Energy CEO Jim Burke signed the four-point pledge proclaiming:
- We fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
- We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
- We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to employ Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans.
- We will continually recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.
“As a former member of the armed forces, I am proud to work with so many outstanding men and women who have served their country and those who continue to do so as members of the National Guard and Reserve,” Young, a former Naval engineering officer, said.
