TXU Energy marked a day of dual honors on Tuesday, April 30, as Tarrant County commissioners declared it to be TXU Energy Aid Day and Nueces County commissioners unanimously recognized the tremendous impact that the 30-year-old program has had in their communities.
Since it began in 1983, TXU Energy AidSM has helped more than 478,000 Texans pay more than $78 million in electricity bills. TXU Energy Aid is the largest bill-payment assistance program among electricity providers in the United States. The program has been recognized nationally for its contributions to low-income customers.
Earlier this year, TXU Energy announced a $5 million commitment to the program for 2013. Since 2008, the retail electricity provider has invested $5 million a year. Those dollars match donations from employees, customers and others $5 to $1. All the money goes to bill-payment assistance, which is coordinated by more than 80 social service agencies that identify TXU Energy customers who are in need.
“We know that making ends meet continues to be a struggle for many Texans,” TXU Energy Chairman and CEO Jim Burke said earlier this year. “We’re committed to our tradition of helping customers who are in need, and we’re proud of the help that donations from the company, our employees and our customers have allowed us to deliver.”
More than a dozen representatives from partner social service agencies attended the Tarrant County Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday.
“TXU Energy’s commitment to service goes far beyond providing electricity. It also invests in the communities it serves through programs that help consumers pay their electricity bills during times of financial need, contributes to economic development activities and improves the health and welfare of thousands of people every year through corporate donations and the generosity of its employees,” the county’s proclamation said.
In adopting their resolution, Nueces County commissioners encouraged “the citizens of Nueces County to join the Court in congratulating TXU Energy for its gracious contributions to the citizens of Nueces County.”
Earlier this year, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett proclaimed March 7 as TXU Energy Aid Day.
In addition to the company’s focused assistance to customers who are in need, TXU Energy offers all customers a suite of integrated, cost-savings solutions. From the TXU Energy MyEnergy DashboardSM, to Energy Management Alerts, Average Monthly Billing and the Brighten® Personal Energy Advisor, TXU Energy is giving customers constant access to solutions that allow them to easily monitor and analyze their electricity usage, control their spending and manage their accounts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
“Texans by nature want to conserve and want to avoid wasteful consumption of resources,” Burke said. “Our suite of free solutions is a tremendous value to our customers, including those who are most in need.”
